Sexism in Sports

There is an abundant amount of controversy when it comes to girls playing football. The unanswered question is “should girls be allowed to play football?”. When it comes to football it should not matter at all what your gender is. The only thing that should matter is how much talent you have and can you get the job done. Many people think football is only a sport for boys and girls should not play football with boys.

There are tons of girls that have the same amount of talents as boys do at football but they are not allowed to play football. Athletic directors and coaches try to say they can not play football because they don’t have a locker room or uniforms for girls. Truthfully people not wanting girls to play football comes down to sexism. Girls should be given the same a opportunity to as boys when comes to playing football 

In the article “If Guys Can Do It So Can Girls: High school sports should be coed”

It talks about how if girls have the same ability as boys they should be able to play on the same sports team as them especially in football. Majority of the time football teams are missing one piece to their team to make them a great team. For instance at my high school the only starting position that was not filled by an elite player was the kicker. A girl with better ability to kick  than any boy on my high school football team wanted to be the kicker but she was told no not because of her ability to play but because she was a girl and she was told that their was not a lockroom for her to be in with the other players on the football team there for she was not allowed to play football. 

    All highschools should make it a requirement that they have to let girls play football if they have the ability to compete on the field with boys. There should be no excuses made of why a girl can not be on football team if it has anything to do with her gender. In the article “Judge denies girl’s request to play on high school football team” states that the girl could not play football because everyone else on the football team was a girl and she could not use the same locker room as them and because football is not meant for girls. That is another examples of sexism used towards girl because the wanted to play football.

     All girls should have the opportunity to play football because football builds character and makes people mentally, physically and emotionally strong and all girls should have the opportunity to be in that type of atmosphere. Football teams that have girls on the team it’s attracts publicity and everyone wants publicity especially when it is positive. 

    Although people can come up with many of reasons girls should not be allowed to play football, they should all be able to have the opportunity to play football because the goods out way the bads and they deserve the chances to play. If they are not given the chance to play it is sexism and that is completely wrong. Therefore all girls deserve the chance to play football.
