Sexism in Football

There is an abundant amount of controversy when it comes to girls playing football. The unanswered question is “should girls be allowed to play football?”. When it comes to football it should not matter at all if you are male or female.  The main point  that should matter the most is how  much talent you have and if  you can get the job done to achieve success. Many people think football is only a sport for boys, and that  girls should not be able to play football with boys.

There are tons of girls that have the same amount of talent as boys do when it comes to  football, however  they are not allowed to play football due sticking to that status quo. Athletic directors and coaches try to say they can not play football because they don’t have a locker room or uniforms for girls. Truthfully many people do not want girls to be allowed to play football and that  comes down to sexism and fear of girls being involved in a a strictly male dominated sport. Girls should be given an equal  opportunity to as boys when comes to playing football 

In the article “If Guys Can Do It So Can Girls: High school sports should be coed”

It talks about how if girls have the same ability as boys do,  they should be able to play on the same sports team as them especially when it comes to football. Majority of the time football teams are missing one piece to make their team a great team. For instance, at my high school the only starting position that was not filled by an elite player was the kicker. A girl with better ability to kick  than any boy on my high school football team wanted to be the kicker, however she was told she could not  be  on the team not because of her abilities, but because she was a girl and she was told that there  was not a lockroom for her to be in when with the other players on the team, therefore she was not allowed to play football. 

    All high schools should make it a requirement that they should  have to let girls play football if they have the ability to compete on the field with boys. There should be no excuses made for why a girl cannot be on the  football team especially if it has anything to do with their gender. The article “Judge denies girl’s request to play on high school football team” states that the girl who wanted to play football could not because she would be the only girl on the team,  and she could not use the same locker room as the boys because football is not meant for girls. That example above is another og sexism towards girls who have the ability to play football.

     All girls should have the opportunity to play football because football builds character and makes people mentally, physically and emotionally strong and all girls should have the opportunity to be in that type of atmosphere. Football teams that have girls on the team have attracted the public's eye and have had a positive outlook for those teams that have given girls the ability to play. 

    Although people can come up with many reasons that  girls should not be allowed to play football, I believe that girls should all be able to have the opportunity to play football because the goods outweigh the bads and they deserve the chances to play. If they are not given the chance to play due to their gender, then  that is completely wrong and tends to have society trend away from equality. Therefore all girls deserve an equal opportunity to have the chance to showcase their ability to play football.
