Coronavirus

In the year 2020 to 2021 the internet has been the biggest it has ever been. The coronavirus has caused everything from school to work to be online. This has negatively effected students and adults with their social life and high levels of anxiety and depression. Our life had change within the blink of an eye, all because of the Coronavirus.

The virus outbreak first started in March, spring of 2020. When students and adults got a notice saying that schools and work pace areas are going to be shut down for a week due to the virus. At first everyone was happy because we had gotten a week off school and we thought we would return after everything was deeply cleaned. But little did we know, we were going to be in quarantine for over a year.

Once college campuses and high schools began to shut down, everything was moved to online learning. But at first most people were somewhat excited because No one had to go into school, and you can do everything from your laptop while sitting in bed. It was the key to laziness. But as time went on people began to hate being online and everyone wanted to go back to school.

According to the article Coronavirus impacts on students and online learning, By Anne Dennon, she writes “Forty-two percent of students said staying motivated to do well once courses moved online was a major problem for them.”  This statistic shows that the switch from in person to all online learner was a bad thing to do for students’ education causing anxiety and added stress. When you were in person you always paid attention while you were in class and it was easier to absorb the information that is being given. But now that it has changed to online, most people have their camera off and are muted, so they can easily get distracted by the things around them or by their phone and there would not be a consequence until the assignment or test comes up.

The Coronavirus did not just cause the schools and universities to close, the workplaces such as supermarkets, and other places where you would buy to get food began to close too. But because some adults were not able to go to work and make money, they were unable to buy food for their family and for themselves.

In the article The Impact of COVID-19 on people’s livelihood, health and food systems, Kimberly Chriscaden writes “Without the means to earn an income during lockdowns, many are unable to feed themselves and their families.” This had become a huge problem especially to the people that had barely been able to support their family before the pandemic had begun. The government began to help the people that were in need by giving them a stimulus check of a certain amount of money. But this only solved the problem for a short period of time, and yet by the time that money was gone they still might not have a place to work.

As the time went on those places that were able to open, such as bigger businesses, they converted over to being on a zoom call and doing all your work from home. This was great for the people that needed to be making money in order for them to feed their family. But as time continued, people started to get anxious and depressed especially the teenagers and young adults. The fact that they had to stay indoors almost the entire day, having to social distance away from their peers, and being on the same routine every single day gets exhausting and can really do a poll on your mental health.

For example in the article In a World ‘So Upside Down,’ the Virus Is Taking a Toll on Young People’s Mental Health By Dan Levin “It has also cut off an estimated 55 million children and teenagers from school staff members whose open doors and compassionate advice helped them build self-esteem, navigate the pressures of adolescence and cope with trauma” This shows that being in school isn’t just about getting an education, it’s also involves the relationships that you make and how you learn to deal with certain aspects and problems that go on in your life.

In conclusion, the coronavirus has negatively affected students and adults through loss of a job and high levels of anxiety and depression because of online classes. There are a lot of examples that show the lack of education that you gain from online classes, and only causes negative impacts on the students. Not only just students but adults were unable to feed their families because of the lack of employment, and stores began to shut down for a long period of time. Overall, the pandemic has negatively impacted children’s learning and the work area of making money for your family.
